The International  North-South Transportation Corridor is the most important for cargo transportation between Iran and Russia. This corridor was designed as an alternative shorter route to connect India and Persian Gulf countries to Russia, Western Europe, Baltic, and Scandinavian countries.

The advantage of NORTH-SOUTH ITC over the route Persian Gulf – Suez Canal – Mediterranean Sea is the reduction of the distance from 16000 km to 7200 km, and thereby the optimization of the transportation time from 45-60 days to only 20 days.
